Tilden Simpers (Sempers) and Family papers

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of 22 handwritten letters during Tilden Simpers' enlistment in the sixth Maryland Infantry Regiment during the Civil War from 1862-1865. Primary topics include his early service, his correspondence with his wife, Elisa Simpers, George R. Howard, G.W. Wapon, Milton N. Taylor, Theodore Dodd, C. H. Harrington, J. Huly, M.E. Mitchell, and others. Topics include his work as a surgeon and affairs within his home during his absence.

Frank “Skip” Groff [1948-2019] was a record producer, record store owner, disc jockey, United States Army veteran, and record promoter who was a primary figure in the Washington, D.C. area punk scene in the 1970s and 1980s. The Skip Groff papers includes recordings related to Groff’s career as a disc jockey and record store owner, photographs, correspondence, ephemera, magazines, clippings, and an oral history interview with Groff.

Joseph Leonard Smallwood was born in 1811 in Charles County, Maryland. He lived and worked on the family farm until the age of 24 when he moved to Alabama. Smallwood married Rebecca Gibson in 1836 and relocated to St. Joseph, Florida. Joseph and Rebecca continued to move for the majority of their lives.
