Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Modest Japanese home under construction in the Ueno Park section, north Tokyo. The studdings are 2x2 inch pieces, there is a bark covering on the roof, and there is a "backplastering" of mud and rice straw on a wickerwork of bamboo canes. The house will be covered with boards (1/4 or 1/2 inch) and may or may not have tile placed on the roof."
