Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "View near north end with hilly red Latosols from tuffs and agglomerates in right foreground, coral reef under shallow waters in distance. Mangrove in swamp at edge of water to left."

Description provided by photographer Roy Simonson reads: "Rusting steel skeletons of the hangars from a Japanese seaplane base on the west side of Arakabesan Island, Palau group. The distant hills consist of Latosols from andesitic rocks (volcanic agglomerate) in slopes of 50% or better, covered by scrubby vegetation that is frequently burned."
