The papers of the Lamping Family date from 1887 to 1902; the bulk of materials date from 1890 through 1896. Documents include correspondence, financial statements, documents concerning the estate of Rebecca Lamping and William Lamping, Jr., and a war service record for the War of 1812. The dominant subject is the financial security of the Lamping family, including the financial preparations and accounting measures surrounding the transfer of property in the event of a death in the family.

Rebecca Lamping, 1887-1891

Materials in this series reflect the financial situation of Rebecca Lamping prior to and at the time of her death, including two financial summaries, prepared by her son Clemens. One significant item is a note to her children explaining how she would like her property distributed after her death. Arrangement is chronological.

Lamping Family Financials, 1888-1895

This series contains correspondence regarding the financial accounts of the Lamping siblings. All the letters in the series were written to [William] Clay, who appears to have been Frank's brother-in-law and possibly his accountant. Frank Lamping is the most dominant correspondent in this series. R.H. Phipps and William R. Martin, are also featured correspondents in this series. Topics include account balances, money advances, family visits and the death and estate of a person named Cola. R.H. Phipps' letter to William Clay (September 6, 1888) discusses the Starr family plot in Green Mount Cemetery; additional materials on this topic are located in Series 3. Many of the letters are written on the stationary of F.W. Felgner and Sons Tobacco Works in Baltimore. Series 2 is arranged chronologically.

Clemens Lamping, 1888-1902

Series 3 contains materials relating to Clemens Lamping, his wife Helen Starr Lamping, and their eldest child, William Lamping, Jr. The largest section of this series relates to the death of Clemens's son, William. Included is a certificate insuring that William died intestate (without a will), several receipts from the Register of Wills, and accounts relating to William's financials. Another large portion of this series pertains to Clemens Lamping's professional and financial status. Topics include the selling of stocks, membership to the Maryland Historical Society, tax receipts, and envelopes that accompanied Clemens's life insurance policy; these envelopes contain the amount paid and the name of the insurer. There is also a letter to Helen Starr Lamping about Clemens' life insurance policy probably after his death. Other items include information regarding the family plot of Helen Starr Lamping at Green Mount Cemetery; a letter from Helen's stepfather on this topic is located in Series 2. Finally, there is a record certifying that Helen's grandfather, William Starr, served in the First Regiment Artillery of the Maryland Militia in the War of 1812. The arrangement of the series materials is chronological.
