Correspondence, 1941-2009 and undated

 Series 1

Mr. Porter's involvement and continued interest in the life of Katherine Anne Porter led him to correspond with a variety of people about her. This series contains his correspondence with scholars, family members, friends, and other individuals or institutions interested in Katherine Anne Porter's life and work. The series also contains the extensive correspondence between Paul Porter and members of the University of Maryland community, which covers a period of thirty years, from 1978 to 2008. In addition to individual correspondent files, subject files are included as well. The subject files contain all correspondence relating to a particular subject such as Requests and Permissions or the Katherine Anne Porter House. Also of note is the series of letters and postcards between Miss Porter and Paul Porter. Other major correspondents include, Mr. Porter's friend Blaine Butler and staff members of the Katherine Anne Porter Museum. There is also one folder of correspondence between Miss Porter and John Melville, a close friend of Mr. Porter who died in 1957. The materials are arranged alphabetically by correspondent or subject.
