Biographical / Historical
John Howes was born and raised in Illinois. During the war, he joined the Navy and went to the language school. After being released from the Navy at the end of the war, he was hired by the Army as a civilian as a linguistic to go to Japan. Later, Howes was transferred to an office job in the Civil Intelligence Section in General Douglas MacArthur’s building where he was in charge of organizing information.
